We are deeply saddened by the passing away of chairman emeritus, Keshub Mahindra, on 8th April 2023, at the age of 99. He was the oldest billionaire in India and a stalwart of the Indian industry, having served as the chairman of the Mahindra Group for 28 years.

A life of achievements and contributions


Keshub Mahindra was born in Lahore (now in Pakistan) on 4th May 1923 and joined the Mahindra Group in 1947, when it was a small steel trading company. He played a key role in the group's growth and diversification, including its entry into the automotive sector in 1949, which later became its flagship business.

Under his leadership, the Mahindra Group became one of the largest and most respected Indian conglomerates, with a presence in over 100 countries and a wide range of businesses, from automotive and farm equipment to aerospace and information technology. He was also a champion of corporate social responsibility, philanthropy, and sustainable development, and led many initiatives to benefit the communities and environment where the group operates.

A legacy of values and leadership

Keshub Mahindra was not only a successful businessman but also a visionary and a role model for many. He embodied the values of integrity, excellence, innovation, and customer focus, which are the cornerstones of the Mahindra Group's culture and success. He also believed in empowering and nurturing his people, and many of his colleagues and successors have continued his legacy of leadership and excellence.
